Ask a question

Cocktail jewellery was worn in the mid-20th century, when jewels and clothes were divided into pieces for day and night – and for this magical, sophisticated hour between.

Or at least according to Hollywood, one of the great social influencers of the time.

These exuberant multi-gem domes are often referred to as Sputnik jewels and do appear from time to time, usually as rings.

Earrings are less common. These are clips but they can be converted for pierced ears. (I’d be happy to arrange this at no extra cost.)

They’re set in 18-carat gold and were made in Italy about 1960.

I can remember Sputnik flying overhead in 1957 when I was seven. Anyone else out there old enough to remember the excitement it generated?
