Turquoise was often combined with diamonds in 19th century jewellery, showing the high regard held for it during the late Georgian and Victorian eras.

In this 18-carat gold example from the later Victorian period – about 1890 – the three turquoises have an intense hue, and the four old mine cut diamonds are white, bright and well-matched.

The pretty hand-carved fleur-de-lis setting remains crisp and the stones are held securely.

Like pearls, turquoise is porous, which means it will discolour over time unless treated with care.

So this is a ring to put on when you leave the house and take off as soon as you arrive home. That way it will still look just as beautiful a century from now.
