Turquoise was often combined with diamonds in 19th century jewellery, as in this 18-carat gold ring hallmarked for Birmingham 1899, showing the high regard held for it during the late Georgian and Victorian eras.

The turquoises have an intense hue, and the old mine cut diamonds are bright and white.

The pretty crown-like setting is as crisp as when it was handcrafted, and the stones are securely set.

There is a slight taper to the setting – not an obvious one – but it adds softness to the design, with the central stone being slightly larger than the outside ones.

Like pearls, turquoise is porous, which means it will discolour over time unless treated with care.

So this is a ring to put on when you leave the house and take off as soon as you arrive home. That way it will still look as beautiful in another 120 years.
