I’ve offered various examples of this type of silver Victorian collar from about 1880 many times over the years.

I never tire of the style. It sits so well. The thin, overlapping links mould themselves into the contours of the throat in a singular way when it is worn on its own.

This one is a good length at 17 1/2 inches, or 44cm. Silver collars are often just a little longer than their gold counterparts, owing to their relatively lower cost of production.

The design of the links is charming, too, comprising hearts hand engraved with flowers, joined at the top by an apparent ribbon threaded through them.
