The contrasting diamonds have been finely set in platinum, an unusual refinement in this type of ring, and points to Edwardian rather than Victorian creation.

Like all precious gems, demantoid garnets vary in quality and value. The name describes their attribute that – like diamonds – they are highly reflective and dispersive.

Compared with emeralds of similar quality, they are both more yellow and more brilliant to the eye.
