SOLD: Victorian Pailin sapphire and diamond ring, circa 1890
$2,412.00
Out of stock
This charming 19th century ring features a pretty blue unheated cushion cut sapphire.
A lively old mine cut diamond in a sweet tulip-shaped setting sits on either side.
Interesting fact: the sapphire comes from the Pailin area of Cambodia. The mines were exhausted by the Khmer Rouge in the 1970s and 80s, so no new stones are available.
The construction of 18-carat yellow gold with a silver top is typical of 19th century diamond-set jewellery, with the silver allowing the whiteness of the diamonds to be reflected.
