White and colourless gemstones were fashionable in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Moonstones featured with diamonds and pearls, in all possible combinations – such as this romantic 15-carat yellow gold brooch where two pearl swallows flank a shared moonstone and pearl heart.

The moonstone glows blue and the natural half pearls are pristine.

It’s as charming a token of love as it was when it was made more than 140 years ago.
