Here’s a lovely late 19th century 15-carat gold flower brooch, unmarked but probably Australian, as it was sourced here – and Australian jewellers embraced botanical themes even more than their counterparts in the rest of the world during the mid to late Victorian period.

At that time the Australian colonies welcomed immigrants from all over Western Europe, including some excellent jewellers.

Beautifully handcrafted throughout, this has a contemporary feel while being unmistakably antique.

The back carries a gold shield, applied later, bearing the charming inscription: “To my very good friend Miss Mac as a token of my appreciation from Don 1929.”

This sparked my imagination to supply an appropriate back story. Does it do the same to you?

The condition is immaculate. Miss Mac looked after it very well and now it’s ready to be treasured and worn once more.
