SOLD: Victorian fancy pierced gold chain, circa 1880
Ornate but not fussy, here is a hard-to-find 18 3/4-inch late Victorian nine-carat rose gold chain.
Decorated with ornate hand piercings including stars on the main faces of each link, the sides are prettily stamped with a star and stripe pattern.
The sides also bear traces of the yellow gold gilding originally applied to many such chains – a nice detail. As is the hand-applied nine-carat stamp on one end, a good indication of English origin from about the end of the 19th century.
You could wear this as a standalone necklace, layer it, or hang a favourite jewel or two from it.
