The plump knotted surround handcrafted from nine-carat yellow gold complements the deep dome of the glowing garnet, with the knots making perfect shoulders for the setting.

The thick round gold wire continues as two unbroken lines into the band, giving a pleasing ribbed effect.

This type of ring can be seen as complementary to the the plethora of handmade gold knot and plait rings popular in England from the late Victorian and Edwardian periods, employing similar techniques and motifs.

Their classic lines never date, and this lovely example would look equally at home worn with modern or antique jewellery.
