SOLD: Victorian blue cloisonné enamel vesta, circa 1900
$335.00
Out of stock
Vestas – or match holders – were a fashionable personal item about the turn of the century for gentlemen who smoked.
The ridged plate at the base provided the necessary friction to light the matches kept inside (this was before the invention of safety matches).
This charming double-sided enamelled example is European in origin and stamped for 930 silver.
The enamel is in good condition, with minor losses, and the interior retains traces of the original gilding.
