Three-stone diamond rings are always a favourite of mine. You get great finger coverage for far less money than the same carat weight in a solitaire diamond, and a more interesting design than a single stone without embellishment.

Here’s a lovely early 20th century example. The fine rounded 18-carat yellow gold band supports the delicate platinum claws, in turn supporting the old European cut diamonds in a minimal way, so their beauty is not overwhelmed by a heavy or fussy setting.

They add up to just under a carat, with the central stone about twice the size of the outside ones.
