LAYAWAY: Opal and diamond cluster ring converted from Edwardian brooch, circa 1910
$6,700.00
Out of stock
Some of you may remember this ravishing Australian opal in its pretty Edwardian halo of diamonds.
It was previously on sale here as the star of a 15-carat gold and platinum brooch from about 1910. I sent it to a master jeweller who converted it with superior skill and huge respect for its original form into this delightful ring.
The colour play is intense and ever-changing in the opal, which is estimated to weigh 2.2 carats. At rest it has a pattern dominated by an appealing pink but the slightest movement sends out a large and lively blast of lime green, along with red, orange, purple and blue bolts of colour.
Our leading gemologist here in Sydney has independently valued the ring, after seeking advice from opal experts in the city. You can see he has identified the central stone as a light crystal opal. It’s worth pointing out that the “light” refers to the stone’s body or background tone rather than the depth of hue on display.
Watch the second part of the video to see it moving from my shop lights into shadow – the colours deepen and intensify.
