These luscious large Victorian old mine cut diamond earrings are a rare survivor.

The wide horizontal axis is reminiscent of earlier girandole types with three pendants, but here five spear-headed drops have been used to complete the design, bringing an ease to wearing and lots of life and sparkle as they move.

The central articulated diamonds, each weighing about 65 points, have a beautiful looped surround with upswept shoulders and an applied cartouche at their bases. The shape of the tops echo the bottom drops.

At some stage these have been altered from hook fittings to posts and butterflies. It’s easy to change to traditional hooks if desired, and this doesn’t affect the value. I like both looks.

Made from 15-carat yellow gold with a cut-down silver top setting, they contain more than four carats of good quality chunky old mine cut diamonds.
