Ask a question

This outsize French jet butterfly is a new/old piece. It was constructed from a variety of antique components by a veteran Czech craftsman.

Each glass elements is backed on to metal, attached to the base, then japanned (covered with a hard black varnish).

Collectors of French jet jewellery will know parts often come off due to the deterioration of the glues over 140 years or so.

The advantage of this brooch over an original is that the new glues holding it together make it very wearable.

This bold but feminine piece lends itself to imaginative styling. We pinned it through our model’s hair, it could look marvellous on a hat.

How would you wear it?
