This delightful antique Dutch nine-carat gold snuff box is obviously not jewellery, but I couldn’t resist it. And certainly it could hold a couple of treasured pieces.
The restrained, deeply ribbed design is relieved by exquisite engraved stemmed tulips fanning out along the sides, with a finely stippled background heightening the contrast.
It’s in immaculate condition, due to the survival of the original retailer’s box – from J.H. Steward of West Strand, London – and dates from about 1890.
