SOLD: Gold Björn Weckström Lapponia ring, hallmarked 1981
$804.00
Out of stock
Björn Weckström, the Finnish sculptor and jewellery artist, began designing for Lapponia in 1963.
He is best-known in popular culture for his Planetoid Valleys silver necklace, which was worn by Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia in the final scene of 1977’s Star Wars.
It’s one of many brilliant Brutalist jewels he created for the Finnish jewellery house, inspired in part by Lapland’s challenging winter landscape. These have become sought after by collectors today.
This Weckström ring hallmarked 1981 unusually combines two colours of 14-carat gold – white and nuggety yellow – to evoke a miniature landscape. Could it be the sun setting on a silvery ice fall, flanked by a rugged slab of rock?
