SOLD: Georgian ruby, diamond and opaline pendant, inscribed 1819
$6,365.00

There’s so much to love in this late Georgian rose gold pendant inscribed from a mother to her daughter – “To P. Maule from her very affecte. Mother P.H. Maule Jan 1st 1819.”
The vivid Burmese rubies glow alongside the pinkish opaline glass.
There’s the contrasting brilliance of the stunning central diamond, an old cut that’s halfway between a Peruzzi cut and its precursor, the Mazarin cut.
We can celebrate the survival of the original ruby set bale and its elaborate joiner, as well as the circle of dark blue enamel.
I also love the octagonal outline and the flat design – so typical of the time.
All these elements sing together, combined as they have been here with striking skill.
