SOLD: Georgian-era enamelled gold vinaigrette, chain and ring, circa 1830
$4,020.00
Out of stock
Here’s a rare survivor – a Swiss enamel gold vinaigrette complete with matching finger ring and joining chain.
Dating from 1820 to 1840 and fashioned in 18-carat gold, the fine enamelled decoration is in the popular Renaissance Revival style.
The front oval panel depicts a typical Swiss view of a castle on a lake, with mountains in the background.
Vinaigrettes contained a perfumed piece of sponge or cotton under the grille to counter the foul odours prevalent before modern times.
There are some very minor losses on the chain – this is in excellent antique condition.
