Georgian angel stickpin, circa 1800

I was thrilled to find this exquisite Georgian angel stickpin from about 1800.
Paste jewels were at their apex in terms of quality and popularity at this time.
The delicately coloured navette-shaped painting in its royal blue enamelled surround is charming.
And the surrounding paste border features scintillating white black-dot paste stones, cut and set with such matched precision that it is on a par with fine diamond set pieces from the period.
But what really sets it apart for me is the original fitted case – I’ve never seen a box like it in almost 50 years in this business.
There’s an antique repair on the nine-carat rose gold back where the pin has been reattached.
The pin itself is wonderfully wavy, something seen only in these early examples.
