French silver and rose gold guard chain, circa 1910

Long chains were the height of fashion at the end of the 19th century and in the early part of the 20th.
Many were fashioned from gold or silver, but combining the two precious metals together was also popular – particularly in France, the origin of this lovely example.
Handcrafted sterling silver oval links with filigree centres are topped with round discs of rose gold.
The flat links sit beautifully and there is a weighty feel to this chain.
It’s a good length, at 55 inches or 140cm, so it goes easily around the neck three times.
There are French marks near the clasp.
