SOLD: Edwardian rose gold heart locket, circa 1910
$536.00
Out of stock
Heart shapes are a constant in jewellery, each period rendering this iconic expression of love in the style of the day.
This Edwardian nine-carat rose gold example from the early years of the 20th century is covered with engraved flowers and ivy on both sides, with pretty variations. In the language of flowers popular at the time, ivy symbolised constancy in love.
The backs of antique jewels were lavished with similar care to the fronts – such niceties were a matter of course. You could wear this with the empty cartouche at the front (which could be personalised), or opt for the side with all-over engraving.
Both inner frames are present, so two photos of loved ones could be housed there.
The condition is excellent, there are no dings or bruises – and it snaps shut with a satisfyingly crisp click.
