Ask a question

This dramatic arrow-shaped 14-carat gold watch fob from about 1915 bears close scrutiny.

At first glance it appears to be decorated with black enamel, not uncommon in European pieces from this time.

But the darker elements here are the spaces between thin sheets of gold – a marvel of precision.

Each section is so finely hinged that it sits totally flat when folded.

There are two finely engraved wider bars, all contributing to the feeling of vertical movement leading to the V-shaped head.

This would make a great pendant. It’s quite long, at just under 4 1/2 inches, and weighty, at nearly 12 grams.

It would look good with the dog clip attached to either a short chain, or a long one doubled or tripled with a short length for the fob.
