SOLD: Edwardian garnet snake ring, hallmarked Birmingham 1913
$1,206.00
Out of stock
Snake rings are a delightful fashion that were popularised by Queen Victoria’s betrothal suite of snake jewellery. They remained popular through the 19th and into the early 20th century.
This example from 1913 is set with two bright and matched oval garnets. The faces are friendly, with well-defined eyes and mouths, and the tails curve sinuously across the ring shoulders.
The proportions and size – X, or 11 3/4 – are generous and, though it can be sized up or down, this ring would look best on a large finger.
Symbolising eternal love, the unbroken circle of a snake holding its tail in its mouth has been popular with collectors of antique jewellery for decades and shows no sign of abating.
