Here’s an appealing five-stone diamond ring from about 1920, set with about 1.30 carats of good-quality old European cuts.

In a formula that’s very pleasing to the eye they graduate in size. The two stones flanking the centre are each three-quarters of the size of the centre diamond, and the outside stones are half the size of the biggest stone.

The low, handcrafted platinum setting has a finely pierced design of little coronets securely holding the diamonds – a lovely detail when viewed from the side.
