Edwardian 15-carat gold chain, circa 1910

Pretty antique high-carat gold pendant chains have never been easy to find but they are becoming scarcer by the day, due to the meteoric increase in the price of gold and the tempting prices their owners can receive if they consign them to the melting pot.
This lovely English Edwardian 15-carat yellow gold example is decorative enough to wear on its own, and would serve as a beautiful counterpoint to a treasured locket or pendant.
Dating from about 1910, it’s decorative but not fussy. The links combine ovals with a crossbar joining circles and round beads, which are interspersed regularly along the length – in this case an eminently wearable 19 inches.
