Ask a question

This delightful pear-shaped enamel and silver pomander was made by Ludwig Politzer, the renowned Viennese silversmith, in about 1890.

Ladies frolicking in pastoral settings adorn the whole exterior in a style evoking late 18th century French paintings.

This must have been a technical tour de force to paint and fire, given the complex shape, variety of hues and delicate execution.

Remarkably, the textured pear stem is intact, and the internal pomander lid is present.

The enamel is in wonderful condition, with only minor losses to the counter enamelled interior of swallows flying in the sky.

This is a rare, collectable bijou.
