SOLD: Austrian locket with rubies and emerald, circa 1915

Edwardian and 1920s jewels often feature geometric elements that anticipate the Art Deco movement, as seen in this appealing hexagonal 14-carat gold locket with Austrian marks.
Three lovely engraved flowers centred with a vibrant ruby or emerald sit in a deeply scrolled surround.
The unadorned top lozenge-shaped section emphasises the strong angled outline and contrasts with this lush richness.
Inside are two sections for photos, complete with frames.
A common feature of this type of jewel is the very flat, thin profile, adding to the overarching feeling of refinement.
