Ask a question

These long elegant sapphire and diamond Art Deco earrings from the 1920s are a rare find.

There is a large selection of all-diamond examples from the era for sale. But if you are looking for coloured stones with your diamonds, the choice dramatically narrows.

Here we have wonderful sugar loaf cut sapphires contrasting with old mine cut diamonds in a typical curved lozenge motif from the 1920s.

This drop hangs from a triangular section, itself suspended from a long articulated tapered strap, all diamond set and scattered with further small rectangular cut sugar loaf sapphires.

Two further old mine cut diamonds sit on the ear lobe in a separate top section with a simple front-to-back hinged fastening.

The sapphires are synthetic, chosen for their consistency of colour – typical of the Art Deco period. Note the curved sides of the main sapphires, demanding enormous cutting and setting skills.
