Ask a question

Edwardian jewellery didn’t turn into Art Deco overnight in 1925 at the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in Paris. There had been a trend towards more geometric shapes in design for some time.

And, during the height of the Art Deco, period, many jewels retained the Edwardian era’s romantic and feminine elements.

This ring is Edwardian in feel with its open millegrained flower design – but the calibre cut emeralds forming a contrasting halo around the large central diamond bring a strong Art Deco edge to the design.

Close examination shows the cut of the emeralds to be trapezoid. There are no gaps where the stones meet the outer setting – this means they have been cut for this particular ring.

I love its low profile. This is typical of rings from the early years of the 20th century. It’s beautifully made.
