SOLD: Victorian Scottish agate gold padlock pendant, circa 1880
$636.50

Lovers of Scottish jewellery, this is for you.
Gold examples are so much rarer than silver, and often show superb workmanship, as in this nine-carat example from about 1880.
The carefully chosen contrasting stones have bevelled edges and are separated by a thin gold sheet, highlighting the uniqueness of each.
The locket back contains the hair of a loved one.
This was once a working padlock but has been neatly adapted to a pendant, with the arm now permanently closed.
Fine engraving adds a flourish to the delightful curves of the shield shape.
