Gold is proving a safe haven in these worrying times. Antique gold chains are looking increasingly attractive for investment, as well as being wonderful pieces of jewellery.

Here we have a classic nine-carat rose gold curb link watch chain, possibly from about 1900. (This link was popular for so long it could easily have been made anytime from the 1880s to the 1920s.)

This albert is a great, wearable length of 15 1/4 inches – 38.5cm – and it weighs 38.6 grams.

The links are close set and unworn. Each of them is stamped for nine carat.

• Handmade in nine-carat rose gold
• Approximately 15 1/4 inches (38.5cm) long, 5.5mm (just under 1/4 inch) wide
• Weight is 38.6 grams
• In excellent antique condition
• Will come in a Karen Deakin gift box
