This is a really good combination of two things I love: fiery Australian opals and an English antique carved half-hoop mount. Rose-cut diamond highlights complete the picture.

The crystal opals – which were probably mined in Andamooka, South Australia – are lively from all angles.

This ring will suit a larger finger. Its spread is wide as the stones are quite large.

Bigger half-hoops can be a bit square and blocky at the top, without a pleasing taper. Not this one. It has a good curve.

Altogether this is a terrific example of a late 19th century ring. I’m delighted to offer it for sale.
