SOLD: Victorian gold bicycle brooch, hallmarked Birmingham 1896
$335.00
Out of stock
This cute gold brooch is hallmarked for Birmingham 1896, and is typical of the light-hearted jewels produced in England around the end of the 19th century.
Interestingly, it is dated for the year the modern Olympic Games began.
Though it’s handcrafted in nine-carat gold, the colour is a rich yellow gold.
It’s probably gilded in high-carat gold – this was common practice at the time – which has never worn off.
The details are delightful … you can even see the texture of the bicycle chain.
