These plump mid-Victorian garnet earrings epitomise what I love about English jewellery from between 1860 and 1885.

They’re old but not fussy. They’re beautifully finished on the back. And they’re handcrafted using high-quality materials – you won’t find garnets of such saturated colour and wonderful clarity today.

The buttery 15-carat gold has its original matte finish.

The simple pattern of gold balls around the oval garnets is deceptively simple. In between there is rope work and a further band of gold, adding subtle texture.

Importantly, the earrings’ tops echo the drops.

And these jewels are in immaculate condition, too.
