Here’s a lovely late Victorian buckle ring with full hallmarks for London 1879.

At 7.7 grams it’s wonderfully weighty, and the three old cut diamonds are well-matched, white and bright.

Victorians used the buckle to signify enduring, steadfast love. This example is particularly robust, as shown in profile in the second last gallery image. So it could be worn every day.

Interestingly the date stamp has been struck twice, both as part of the hallmark and on the outside of the shank. This sometimes occurred in the Victorian era when a ring was made in two parts then joined together, as in this case.

This would make a wonderful promise ring, antique engagement ring or wedding band.
