A large and lively golden citrine is surrounded by a classically inspired frame of rich matte 15-carat yellow gold in this appealing brooch from about 1880.

Two levels of scalloped and mitred gold are further embellished with granules of gold and rope work.

The citrine surround forms a fine crown of gold when glimpsed from the side.

This brooch reminds me of sunshine. Strong mid-Victorian jewels like this work so well with modern jewellery, too.
