This late Victorian 18-carat gold chain is handcrafted, as you would expect from a chain from the late 19th century.

The pattern is both sought-after and not easy to find. So beware of cast reproductions, as they are quite common.

(Close examination of the new ones with a 10x loupe will usually show porosity of the gold – small sunken dots in the surface – especially near the most ornate details, which the jeweller has been unable to reach with the polisher. The porosity is part of the casting process.)

This necklace has an attractive double fetter link alternating with knots. The long double links are further embellished with fine double bars.

It is a very wearable 30 inches (76cm) in length.
