Here’s a classic late Victorian Scottish bracelet.

Vari-coloured local agates and minerals have been carved into octagonal rods, then linked together with ornately engraved 15-carat gold caps, and finished with a similarly worked clasp.

Queen Victoria’s love of all things Scottish was taken up and copied by her devoted subjects.

High-carat gold examples like this are far less common than silver pieces.

The warm colour of the agates chosen here work beautifully with the rich yellow of the gold, too.
