Ask a question

Graduated torpedo-shaped drops cascade from a Brazilian link chain in this quintessential mid-Victorian gold necklace.

Inspired by the adornments of ancient Greek, Etruscan and Roman civilisations newly unearthed in the mid-19th century, jewellers embraced the trend to fashion similar items.

I love pieces like this – they’re both impeccably crafted and remarkable for their simple, almost modern design.

They’re also harder to find than the more elaborately decorated jewellery of most of the 19th century.
