Ask a question

Here’s a very rare and desirable mid-Victorian anchor link chain from about 1870.

This example, in rich and buttery 15-carat bloomed gold, is so splendid I very nearly kept it for myself.

Anchor or marine link – so named for its resemblance to a ship’s anchor cable – has long been a favourite of mine. It’s no wonder Gucci adopted this timeless classic.

Though substantial, at 20 3/4 inches (52.5cm) and 43.1 grams, this necklace isn’t heavy on the neck – the links are hollow.

It will work by itself, with a locket or with other chains. The fine old clasp is particularly pleasing.
