A late Georgian 18-carat gold mourning locket with a diamond forget-me-not on black enamel.

This piece is embellished with a border of handworked acorns. Fine machine engraving covers the immaculate front surface, apart from the wonderful original top ring.

Inside is a section of plaited hair under glass, with an inscription for the person being remembered: “Samuel Lord died 16 Jan. 1833 aged 51.”

The back has been slightly overpolished at some point, resulting in a lack of definition to the back machine engraving near the bottom of the locket and a slightly paler look to the gold. This is a minor condition issue only, and does not affect this jewel’s desirability.
