Orientalism was all the rage in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

This whimsical 18-carat French gold brooch in the form of a fan is decorated with vibrant enamel and sparkling rose cut diamonds.

The subject of a bird in foliage is a traditional far eastern design, a nice touch.

It’s marked with a French eagle head on the clasp.

The quality is lovely throughout – it’s worth scrolling through the images to see the jewel-like intensity of the enamel in close up.

It may be small but it packs a punch.
