Early 20th-century rings were made at a time when skills were refined and labour was cheap.

So it’s not surprising to see rings like this showing a breathtaking amount of handwork when you look closely at them.

This fine five-stone old cut diamond half hoop from about 1920 is handcrafted in 18-carat white gold, with typical pierced sides adding to the design.

The centre stone is about half a carat, and the total weight estimated to be about 1.4 carats. All the diamonds are white, bright and well-matched.

The sides remain crisp and unworn too. Quality antique rings like this are increasingly hard to find.
