Ask a question

This long and hefty antique watch chain makes such a strong statement. Wear it on its own or use it as a bedrock to combine with other favourite pieces.

It is hallmarked for Birmingham 1908, is 19 inches long and weighs 89 grams.

The hallmark is on the central ring, a sure sign of its true age.

Dog clips and T-bars are often replacements in antique watch chains and are not a reliable indicator of age – unless they all match.

One of the dog clips here is also marked 1908. (It’s possible the other was too but it’s too rubbed to read.)

The medallion, as is common, has been added slightly later, and is also from Birmingham. It dates to 1915. Perhaps it was a wartime gift?
