SOLD: Edwardian three-stone diamond ring, hallmarked Birmingham 1909
$1,340.00
Out of stock
White, bright transitional cut diamonds feature in this 18-carat gold three-stone ring from 1909.
Though the claws look very fine, they are solid and robust, with their structure cleverly minimised in the design.
The modern brilliant diamond evolved over 30 or 40 years from the 19th century old European cut. The shape became shallower, with a larger top table to aid reflection.
And the culet gradually disappeared – again helping to reflect light.
Refraction of light did suffer, though, at the expense of this increased reflection.
So I love these early modern brilliants, as they retain more fire from the light emerging through the crown facets just under the top table.
