The gorgeous Australian opal in its pretty halo of diamonds is the star of this Edwardian brooch.

I did consider converting it to a ring or a pendant. And I still might do so if it doesn’t sell in this typical Edwardian styling. I’d just cut away the surrounding frame and add a suitable band or pendant loop.

Yet part of me wants someone to buy and keep in its original state, just for the sake of history.

So I am pricing it well – as a brooch rather than a potentially more desirable ring or pendant.

The colour play is intense and ever-changing in this wonderful stone. At rest it has a pattern dominated by a lively pink but the slightest movement sends out lime green, red, orange and purple bolts of colour.
