This ring epitomises the fine work achieved by Edwardian jewellers through the use of platinum. It’s reminiscent of lace or a cobweb – one can only marvel at the craftsmanship that went into creating it.

From about 1900 platinum became far more widely used in jewellery. At the same time, there were breakthroughs in diamond cutting techniques.

Early modern brilliant cuts – set in Edwardian platinum work that was so fine it was practically invisible – came into their own when seen under the new-at-the-time, increasingly popular, electric lighting. Diamonds sparkled and scintillated as never before.

The quatrefoil shape of this ring from about 1910 is cleverly domed to hug the finger.
